Our Intent

Here at Little Loco’s we hope for our children to achieve the following before they leave nursery:
- To be confident communicators who can express their individual needs
- To develop their gross and fine motor skills in order to live a happy, healthy and active life
- To have the tools to develop emotional resilience, can make good friendships and are able to cooperate
- To be positive problem solvers and critical thinkers
- To have the time to love reading and books
- To have a broad understanding and tolerance of the world we live in
- To develop an artistic and cultural awareness that enables their imagination, independence and creativity

0-12 Months

- Takes turns in conversation through babble and single words
- Confidently pull themselves up to standing and curious to explore their environment
- Beginning to use a spoon to feed themselves
- Babies are forming close attachments and developing trust with a friendly staff team and are confident to explore their environment
- Babies enjoy exploring favourite books and participating in active singing opportunities
- To be able to stack objects and put objects inside others and take them out
- Babies enjoy exploring a range of sensory experiences
- Babies enjoy moving and responding to music, join in with movements and gestures
- Babies will become confident exploring sensory experiences with their fingers and other parts of their bodies
- To learn and develop manners when eating, asking for a specific activities and playing with friends

12-24 Months

- Say and use up to 50 words and beginning to put two or three words together
- Toddlers are confident movers
- Feed themselves and can use an open top cup
- Older babies are confident to make independent choices and are developing a sense of self
- To handle a book with interest and are making marks in their play
- Older babies start to enjoy participating in number rhymes and songs
- Older babies delight in responding to the natural world
- Older babies enjoy responding to music, join in with words and are using their whole bodies
- To confidently explore sensory experiences using a range of materials
- To learn and develop manners when eating, asking for a specific activities and playing with friends

2-3 Years

- Toddlers are able to use up to 300 words, they are able to speak in simple sentences and follow instructions with key words in a sentence
- Children are confident climbers and becoming increasingly independent when using a knife and fork
- Independently find and put on their belongings for example coats, and wellies
- Toddlers are beginning to understand about having big feelings and are learning to manage these with support from the caring and nurturing team
- Toddlers are learning to use the toilet independently
- Toddlers have their favourite stories
- Toddlers are starting to join in with favourite stories and songs
- To count in everyday routines and play and able to notice patters and make their own
- Toddlers are excited to investigate the natural world and the community around them
- Toddlers are starting to use their imagination and join in with pretend play
- They enjoy singing and musical games
- To use their imagination and a range of materials to be creative
- To learn and develop manners when eating, asking for a specific activities and playing with friends

3-5 Years

- Children can use an understand more complex sentences and questions and can confidently use a wide range of vocabulary
- Older children are confident to take risks in their play and are becoming even more skilled to negotiate spaces in their play
- Increasing understanding of how to keep themselves healthy and safe
- Begin to dress themselves including zips and buttons
- Children are learning to use a range of language around emotions and can begin to resolve conflicts with their friends
- They are learning strategies to support their emotional well being
- Children have a love for reading and books and can use their extended vocabulary to tell their own stories
- Children can talk about numbers and patterns and are building a bank of mathematical language
- They are learning to solve problems and know it’s ok to make a mistake
- To celebrate similarities and differences between themselves and others
- Developing respect and care and making sense of the world and the community around them
- Children use their imagination to develop complex stories, using a range of resources
- Choose and explore a range of materials and textures to express their own ideas
- To learn and develop manners when eating, asking for a specific activities and playing with friends
